ChatGPT Ads Pixel Helper is an independent Chrome extension for inspecting browser-observable ChatGPT Ads Measurement Pixel activity. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or maintained by OpenAI.

Summary

The extension processes website and measurement information locally in the user's browser to provide its debugging features. It does not send that information to the developer, does not use analytics, does not sell data, and does not share data with third parties.

Information processed

When the extension is enabled on a website, it may process:

  • The current page URL, referrer, page title and top-level navigation state.
  • References to the documented Measurement Pixel script and initialization calls.
  • Pixel IDs, event names, event timestamps, event parameters and event options.
  • Requests to the documented OpenAI measurement host, including URL, HTTP method, request body when Chrome exposes it, completion status and network errors.
  • Whether common tag-manager or consent-platform markers are present on the page.
  • Short labels for clicked buttons, links and submit controls while the user has explicitly started a test session.
  • Local Demo Lab records that are clearly labeled as simulated.

This information can include browsing activity, website content, conversion value or product information, and customer-data fields included by the inspected website.

Sensitive-data protection

Potentially sensitive values are masked before they are stored by the extension or displayed in its interface. This includes common fields for email addresses, phone numbers, names, physical addresses, external IDs, passwords, authentication tokens, cookies, session identifiers, payment-card details, bank-account identifiers, government identifiers and SHA-256 customer-data fields.

All URL query-parameter values are replaced with a redaction marker, and URL fragments are removed before storage or display. The extension does not attempt to reverse hashes.

Users should still avoid placing unnecessary personal or secret information in advertising event payloads.

How information is used

Information is used only to:

  • Show whether Measurement Pixel activity was observed.
  • Display Pixel IDs, events, sanitized parameters and request status.
  • Generate evidence-based implementation warnings.
  • Build a temporary test-session timeline requested by the user.
  • Support the popup and Chrome DevTools debugging interfaces.

It is not used for advertising, user profiling, creditworthiness, lending decisions, or any purpose unrelated to the extension's debugging functionality.

Storage and retention

Temporary diagnostic records are stored in chrome.storage.session, scoped by browser tab, with configurable limits of 500 events and 500 requests per tab. Records are removed when:

  • The inspected tab closes.
  • A new top-level page navigation begins.
  • The user selects Clear Data.
  • The browser session ends or Chrome clears session storage.

The extension does not use Chrome Sync to copy diagnostic data between devices.

Data transmission and sharing

The extension does not transmit diagnostic information to the developer or to a developer-operated server. It contains no analytics, advertising SDKs, telemetry, account registration or external database integration.

It observes existing website requests to the documented OpenAI measurement host in read-only mode. It does not create, block, redirect or modify those production requests. The local Demo Lab makes no external requests.

No diagnostic information is sold or shared with third parties.

Chrome permissions

PermissionPurpose
storageKeeps temporary per-tab diagnostic state in session storage.
tabsIdentifies the inspected tab, sends user-requested scan commands, and clears state on navigation or tab closure.
webRequestObserves request metadata and status for the documented measurement host without blocking or modifying traffic.
Access to https://bzr.openai.com/*Limits network observation to the documented HTTPS measurement host.
Access to websitesAllows Pixel debugging on advertiser websites regardless of domain. Observations stay on the user's device.

User controls

Users can delete current-tab diagnostic records at any time by selecting Clear Data. Closing the tab, navigating to a new top-level page, disabling the extension or uninstalling it also stops further processing for that context.

Children's privacy

The extension is a technical debugging tool and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect information from children through a developer-operated service, because no such collection service exists.

Changes to this policy

Material changes to this policy or the extension's data practices will be reflected in an updated policy and, where required, disclosed through the extension or its Chrome Web Store listing before the changed practices take effect.
